Due to the high prices in large cities and the changing weather in areas that were once predictable: people are moving more often than ever before.  Moving cross-country is an extreme that not many people experience.  This need to create a space for yourself while also getting to know more of the country you haven’t seen before can be fun and inspiring.

If you’re ready to move but the act of it flusters you, here are four tips to make this transition easier in your life.

Reduce How Much You Own

The most important thing you can do in a large move like this is reevaluate how many possessions you have. Of course, you don’t have to throw out everything, but you may benefit from following the Marie Kondo method and cleansing yourself of items you don’t need anymore.

Before you pack, go room to room and look at what you own.  Anything that doesn’t fit into your future home should be put on the emotional chopping block.  The top choices are to sell, donate, or trash.  Only trash items if they’re broken beyond repair or no longer functional in any way.

Start Packing And Cleaning Early

Don’t let yourself get caught off-guard by the packing and moving that will sneak up on you.  The moment you start skimming through Halton real estate for sale is the moment you should start planning your move.  Pack room by room, saving your kitchen and bathroom for last since they’re the most important.  You can also pack your out-of-rotation clothing first since they won’t have to be worn again until after the move.  If you put off packing and preparing yourself for this large life change, you’ll accidentally leave things behind or lose out on your deposit on the apartment because you didn’t have time to clean it.

Make As Few Trips as Possible

Save yourself the struggle of having to travel back across the country for more of your belongings.  Instead, put in the time to get as much in one go as possible.  If that means renting a U-Haul so that you can drag it as a trailer behind your vehicle, consider doing it!  There’s no need to put yourself out for another week just because of your belongings.  If you have any friends who would be willing to, see if they would drive an additional truck if necessary.

Don’t Fear Hiring Moving Companies.

An easy way to avoid having to rent a ton of trucks is to hire a moving company.  They’ll be able to load all of your nice furniture, drop it off again at your new home.  These companies often have varying sizes of trucks, allowing for them to make it in one or two simple trips so that you can ensure your items are in good shape.

Many avoid moving companies because they think they’re too expensive, but for the amount of work they have to do and the ease they create for you, they’re worth it.
